Coventry City set for potential player boost soon after Mark Robins comments

The forward has missed the last 10 games the club have played after needing an operation to remove his appendix last month.

The operation came at a poor time for Godden, who was just playing his way back into form after bagging two goals against Peterborough United.

Mark Robins confirmed that Godden is back out on the training ground and taking hits again, so is hopeful he could make a comeback soon.

The Coventry boss couldn’t commit to saying he will return for the upcoming clash with Swansea City, but if he is unable to feature then he could make his comeback against Luton Town.

“Matty Godden ’s not too far away in terms of where he is, so when he gets the all-clear he’s going to be ready to go,” said Robins, via Coventry Live.

“I don’t know [if he’ll be fit for Saturday] is the honest answer. He feels really good in himself.

“He’s taking hits. We had the pads out and he’s been hit with the pads so he’s ready to go.

“It’s just when we can get the all-clear and it’s as safe as we possibly can be for him. There’s no point bringing him back early if that’s going to be detrimental to his health.

“We have got to make sure it’s right.”

The two goals against his former club put his tally to 10 goals for the season, as the Sky Blues chase a play-off place.

His return will be much needed as the season comes into its closing stages, with March now around the corner.

The Sky Blues drew last weekend, which has left the side 10th in the Championship table.

Robins’ side are three points away from the play-off places with 13 games remaining in the season.

Godden’s return is a big boost to Coventry’s play-off chances.

Having a solid source of goals available in the team again will be crucial for the run-in.
