Millwall 2-1 Swansea City: Manning goal not enough as winless run goes on

Swansea City's winless run was stretched to six matches as they were beaten 2-1 by Championship promotion hopefuls Millwall at The Den.

The Swans dominated possession in South East London but conceded twice in the space of six second-half minutes as Charlie Cresswell and Andreas Voglsammer both struck beyond Andy Fisher.

Matt Grimes' driven effort was deflected in by Ryan Manning on 58 minutes as Swansea pushed for an equaliser, with Morgan Whittaker, Joel Piroe and Liam Cullen all being denied by the resolute Millwall defence. And they were unable to net a second to ensure they suffered a fifth loss in six league outings.

Russell Martin made four changes to the side that started the 3-1 defeat to Middlesbrough at the weekend, with Liam Walsh, who was making only his second league start for the club, and Harry Darling coming in for suspended duo Jay Fulton and Latibeaudiere.

Cullen and Olivier Ntcham also played from the outset as Matty Sorinola dropped to the bench while the injured Ollie Cooper, fresh from his maiden Wales call-up, missed out through injury.

Under the watchful eyes of co-owner Steve Kaplan, the visitors bossed possession from the outset as Ntcham and Ryan Leonard both had efforts at goal from distance in the opening stages, although clear cut chances were non-existent early on.

Operating in a back four, Swansea coped well with the aerial threat of Gary Rowett's troops, and even when the Lions did get half a sniff from a cross, Andreas Voglsammer could only head well wide.
