Mikey Johnston told the 3 Celtic lessons he MUST learn from Liam Scales as winger tipped to become Parkhead game changer

Mikey Johnston has been urged to look to a couple of Celtic comeback kings for inspiration and make the most of his fresh start at Parkhead.

The Hoops winger came off the bench in Saturday’s goalless draw at Easter Road to make his first appearance for the side in more than 18 months. Johnston made an impact but it wasn’t enough for sluggish Celts to sneak a win on the back of a tough Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid. But it was a sign the 23-year-old might have a chance to make another go of it at his boyhood club with Brendan Rodgers back in the hot seat.

Johnston has been around the first team squad at Celts for six years but his progress has been severely hampered by injuries and spent last term on loan in Portugal with Vitoria Guimaraes. The wide man has made more appearances for the Republic of Ireland than Celtic in recent years and there has been talk of a permanent exit in the last couple of windows.

Johnston got his chance at the weekend and teammate Greg Taylor believes he doesn’t need to look too far to see it is possible to come back in from the cold at the club. The Scotland man can point to Anthony Ralston and Liam Scales as case in point – with the pair of them becoming key men following spells in sporting Siberia.

Ralston’s reinvention at Parkhead has been spectacular when he was pitched in by Ange Postecoglou after looking to be on his way out following loan moves to St Johnstone and Dundee United. Scales has become one of the unexpected stars of the season having spent last term at Aberdeen and expected to make a full time move to Pittodrie a few months ago.
