Mikey Johnston earns 'fabulous' view for Celtic loan star's brilliance that led to controversial West Brom penalty snub

Mikey Johnston might not have followed up his dazzling scoring debut for West Brom with a victory but the Celtic loanee still caught the eye in the Baggies defeat to Southampton.

The 24-year-old Republic of Ireland of winger moved to the Midlands side in a bid to reignite his career. And it was a fresh start indeed on his debut as he netted against Cardiff City - who now have his ex team-mate David Turnbull in their ranks - after just 30 seconds.

But on Friday night it was disappointment at the Hawthorns as Carlos Corberan’s men went down 2-0 to the Saints with Scots Stuart Armstrong and Ryan Fraser on target in the English Championship clash. “Does it make clear contact with his hand, with his arm? Can the referee even see it? That arm does seem to come up. It moves towards the path of the ball. I can see why Furlong and West Brom are enraged here. But very difficult is it for Sam Allison to see that because it’s actually screened by Jack Stephens’ body…”
