Mikel Arteta plays down 'Stoke City' jibes after defeating Manchester United in Premier League

Mikel Arteta insisted Arsenal can score in different ways to set-pieces after defeating Manchester United with two goals from corners.

Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka delivered excellent deliveries into the box for Jurrien Timber and William Saliba to get on the scoresheet in the second half.

Arsenal have the best record from set-pieces in the Premier League and caused havoc against United at The Emirates. Rice and Saka both have seven assists from set-plays each in the top flight and Arsenal's use of set-pieces has been compared to Stoke City's style under Tony Pulis.

Pulis famously made the most of set-pieces during his time in charge of Stoke and Arteta has mastered the art of consistently maximising such scenarios at Arsenal.

However, when asked about set-pieces in his post-match press conference Arteta slightly played down his team's record, insisting they can score goals from open play.

"Last year we scored the most goals in the history of this football club. Not because of only set pieces, [but because of a lot of things that we have. We want to create individual and magic moments," he said.

"A lot of players can create their own goals. We can create goals from short counters and long counters, slow build-ups, restarts and the opportunity to open up the opposition.

"Every single phase of play let's maximise it, keep working on it, keep improving. But we need that [threat from set-pieces]. I think we want to be very dangerous and very effective from every angle and every phase of play.
