Mikel Arteta 'angry' with Arsenal board and fears they've blown his summer transfer plan

Mikel Arteta is growing frustrated with the Arsenal hierarchy as he fears their approach could cost them in the transfer market.

The Gunners are looking to recruit without the lure of Champions League football having lost out to Tottenham in the race for fourth place late in the season. Arteta has seen Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette depart in the last six months, leaving him short in attack.

New forwards are therefore a priority this summer and Gabriel Jesus has been highlighted as their top target. However, the club insist all major additions must be green-lighted by their American owners, which Arteta fears could cost them in the market, reports the Daily Mail.

Jesus is poised to leave Manchester City following the arrival of Erling Haaland. The Brazilian's minutes are set to be limited with Julian Alvarez also heading to the Etihad. The Premier League champions are prepared to sanction his sale for £50m, but Arsenal have not yet made a genuine approach.

Their hesitancy has meant their neighbours Tottenham as well as Chelsea and Real Madrid have entered the race and can all offer Champions League football. It could mean Arsenal miss out on their No 1 target, who Arteta knows well having worked with him at the Etihad.

Alternatives may now have to be found with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin previously linked with a switch to the Emirates. The Everton man has proven himself in England's top flight and may be tempted if Arsenal did come calling. Italian Gianluca Scamacca has also been seen as a potential arrival.
