Mikael Lustig revels watching Celtic with no nerves as he pays ultimate Angeball compliment

Mikael Lustig returned to Celtic Park for the first time in four years on Saturday and it was like he had never been away. The Swede watched a swashbuckling all-action team finally sweep aside stubborn Hibs side to keep an astonishing winning streak going.

The man orchestrating from the sideline might have been different and the vast majority of those in the hoops had changed but for former right back Lustig, who won an astonishing eight titles at Parkhead before leaving in 2019, it was all pleasingly familiar. The 35-year-old was, after all, part of the Brendan Rodgers' Invincibles team and while Ange Postecoglou can't replicate that feat, having lost one league game to St Mirren, Lustig can see plenty of similarities.

"They are doing so well," he said. "You can absolutely compare them with the Brendan Rodgers team with the way they play. When Ange came in, no one knew anything about him. He brought a lot of players in you hadn’t heard of and you were a little unsure about what would happen with Celtic.

"But since the first day they have been playing so well. The strength with our team is the same with this one – it doesn’t matter what players are in the starting XI. They are going to perform really well. You are always comfortable when you watch them. You are never nervous they are going to slip up because you know they will push on."

Postecoglou's use of his full backs, bringing them into the middle of the pitch more often, might be seen as unusual in Scotland but Lustig insists Rodgers' Celtic side did the same.
