Mikaël Kingsbury claims silver in World Cup dual moguls event in Quebec

Canada's Mikaël Kingsbury secured his second World Cup medal in as many days after claiming silver in the men's dual moguls event at the FIS freestyle ski World Cup at Val Saint-Côme, Que., on Saturday night.

The 30-year-old from Deux-Montagnes, Que., finished second behind reigning Olympic moguls champion Walter Wallberg of Sweden, who was joined by compatriot Filip Gravenfors on the podium.

Kingsbury, who won his third dual moguls world title in 2021, missed out on gold after crashing during the big final.

The three-time Olympic medallist, captured moguls gold on Friday night in front of the home crowd for his 77th career World Cup win.

Elliot Vaillancourt (10th), Julien Viel (11th) and Louis-David Chalifoux (14th) were the next highest finishers for Canada in the men's event on Saturday.

In the women's event, 21-year-old Maïa Schwinghammer of Saskatoon led the Canadian contingent with a 12th-place finish, followed by 22-year-old Berkley Brown of Aurora, Ont., in 16th.

Japan's Anri Kawamura won gold for the second day in a row, while Perrine Laffont of France and Makayla Gerken Schofield of Great Britain claimed silver and bronze, respectively.

Kawamura holds a small lead over Australia's Jakara Anthony — who finished ninth on Saturday — in the overall women's moguls World Cup standings, while Schwinghammer is the highest ranking Canadian in 11th.

The next moguls event on the World Cup circuit will take place at Deer Valley Resort in Utah from Feb. 2-4.
