"Might give them the edge" – Journalist says Rangers may hold advantage in race for 20-goal ace

Rangers‘ ability to offer regular football and the opportunity to play in Europe could give them the edge in the race to sign Cameron Archer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is hoping to bolster his attacking options ahead of next season and his side have been linked with the highly-rated Aston Villa youngster.

According to talkSPORT, Rangers are interested in signing the striker this summer, but face competition from the likes of Middlesbrough, Watford, QPR and West Brom, while Preston are keen on re-signing Archer following his loan exploits last season.

Archer scored seven goals for Preston last term, which came after he had already racked up 13 for Aston Villa’s first-team, Under-23s and Under-18s, including hat-tricks against Barrow in the Carabao Cup and Wycombe in the EFL Trophy.

Furthermore, the impressive young striker, who was described as having an ‘abundance of talent’ by Preston manager Ryan Lowe, has continued his goalscoring spree on the international stage by netting four goals in his first four appearances for England Under-21s.

As a result, there’s still competition for Archer’s signature, but O’Rourke reckons the lure of playing in Europe and getting regular game-time could improve Rangers’ chances.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Rangers will be hoping that regular first-team football and the chance to play European football might give them the edge over several Championship clubs who are also keen on him.”
