Microsoft IT outage update on buses, trams and trains in Greater Manchester

Transport bosses have issued a statement on the impact of global IT issues on buses, trams and trains in Greater Manchester. The issue with Microsoft systems has left many banks, airlines, GP surgeries, TV and radio broadcasters and supermarkets experiencing outages.

A number of train operators across the entire rail network are also experiencing issues with passengers warned to expect disruption. Manchester Airport has confirmed it is affected by the global IT issues but has advised passengers to prepare for travelling as usual.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has said that there is currently no major impact on buses, trams or local rail services, although customer information for rail passengers may be affected. However, one local public transport service has been affected.

A TfGM spokesperson said: "There is currently no major impact on bus, tram and local rail services in Greater Manchester but TfGM and its partners are continuing to monitor the situation closely.

"Some rail customer information channels may be affected but services are running as normal.

"We are currently unable to take new bookings for Local Link and Ring & Ride services but this will not affect any bookings that have already been made."

Network Rail has said the railway's essential train control, communications and running systems are not affected by the IT issues
