Michael Voss promises significant changes ahead of first season as Carlton coach

New Carlton coach Michael Voss has opened up on his plans for the Blues’ 2022 season in an exclusive interview with 7NEWS.

The 46-year-old AFL great also revealed his excitement to return to the head coaching ranks, nine years after he was sacked as Brisbane’s coach.

“There’s no anxiousness, there’s a lot of excitement - I can’t wait,” Voss told 7NEWS’ Tim Watson.

“I’m really looking forward to it, the enormity of the job is not lost on me.

“I understand there’s going to be some ups and downs. There’s a lot of things associated with this job that will test you a lot.

“Trying to appease a lot of people, but you do it with the club in mind and the team in mind first and foremost and we’re going to go on a pretty good journey.”

The boyhood Carlton fan said his players had already shown how committed they were to turning the club’s fortunes around in the hope of making the finals for the first time since 2013.

“From the moment I stepped in, there’s been an appetite to want to learn and get better and embrace what we’re trying to do,” Voss said.

“The program that’s been there, to game style we’ve played. I feel like the playing group has been extremely hungry, extremely committed.

“The expectations that I have with this group are going to be around how they buy into each other.”

Voss also hinted at the style of play he’ll be implementing for the year ahead.

“There’ll be a high demand on the pressure around the contest and the ability to be able to win it,” Voss said.

“This game is demanding and you have to be able to read what’s ahead of you and what the opposition are doing and at times.
