Michael Stewart in unflinching Rangers penalty verdict as he makes Kevin Clancy admission

Pundit Michael Stewart reckons Kevin Clancy was right to turn down two penalty appeals from Dundee United in their defeat to Rangers at Ibrox.

But he reckons the latter claim, after Jamie McGrath tumbled in the box following a challenge with Malik Tillman, could have resulted in a spot kick if the man in the middle didn't have a clear view. But the former Hearts star wasn't having Tony Watt's appeals after he hit the deck following contact with Rangers defender Borna Barisic. And fellow panelist Kenny Miller was in full agreement over that call.

It was a major day for the Ibrox side as they secured all three points despite a spirited fightback from the basement boys in the second half. But Antonio Colak 's double was enough for the victory as Liam Smith's strike proved merely a consolation. And Stewart is convinced Clancy got the big calls right on a action-packed day at Ibrox.

Speaking on Sportscene, Stewart said: "That one (first incident) was soft, Tony Watt is goal side of Borna Barisic, and throws himself down.

"This one (Tillman on McGrath), you can understand why McGrath goes down because there is contact. That could easily be given, but you watch the replay here, Malik Tillman manages to get his foot in front, it flicks up the ball, it's a slight touch on the ball, but it's enough, it's not a penalty.

"That could easily been given, the referee could have been blindsided and might not have seen the touch on the ball.
