Michael Owen lauds 'brilliant' Liverpool winger Luis Diaz

Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has made an impressive start to life on Merseyside.

The 25-year-old has been turning heads ever since completing a move from FC Porto and his full debut was no different.

Having enjoyed a cameo outing against Cardiff City and after starring in the Reds’ rondos in training, Diaz has now caught the eye against Leicester City.

Speaking on BT Sport at half-time, former Anfield favourite Michael Owen admitted those in the studio were in awe of the Colombian.

“We were just drooling over him. Don’t get me wrong, he hasn’t done anything in particular where you think, ‘wow he’s created an unbelievable chance,’ but I love his sharpness. He looks quick, he looks lively, he looks like he presses the ball, doesn’t mind running at players and beating them. I think he looks like a Liverpool player, he really does look like he’s going to fit into this team like a glove. Brilliant player.”

Diaz earned a 6.90 Sofascore rating in a performance with five successful dribbles, 41 accurate passes and two shots on target.

Prior to making the switch to Liverpool, the 33-cap ace had scored 16 times and provided six assists in 28 appearances in Portugal.

As debuts go, stunning.

All the display was missing was either a goal or assist to truly announce a dazzling arrival at Liverpool – something the Colombian so nearly earned.

Willing to drive at the opposition and seemingly unwavering in work rate, it’s clear to see why Jurgen Klopp has added the £36million valued man to the ranks.

Despite a continued language barrier, Klopp will undoubtedly be tempted to let the newest star off the leash more often after this showing.
