Michael Beale takes dig at Rangers board as he claims Clement is getting the honesty he missed out on

Michael Beale insists Rangers should have sent out the same message for him as they are doing now with Philippe Clement - and revealed he would never have taken the job in the first place if he’d known so many key personnel would leave.

And the former boss admitted the warning signs should have been there for him when Giovanni van Bronckhorst was axed despite what he achieved during his time at the helm, insisting his predecessor should have been afforded more time in the hot-seat.

Beale spoke in-depth for the first time of his shortlived time as Rangers manager with the axe falling just over a year ago after 10 months in charge. The 43-year-old, later sacked by Sunderland after just 12 games in charge, told how he took a wage CUT for the Ibrox job after leaving his first senior managerial position at QPR.

But he said losing two of his Rangers allies from his first spell at Ibrox, sporting director Ross Wilson and chief executive Stewart Robertson, as well as others left him with less time on the training pitch and impacted on the job. And Beale, speaking on the Mindset For Sport’ podcast, said he wouldn’t have taken the position under those circumstances.

And he said given the turnover of players and aim to bring down the wage bill, a clearer message to the one pleading patience under his successor Clement should have been sent out. He said of last season: “We went into the season with a lot of change. There had to be a greater awareness - I wasn’t willing to say it publicly - it was going to take time with so much change. The new season came, we won eight drew two and lost four and I left.
