Michael Beale spells out Rangers reality of summer revamp but insists he 'won't make excuses' after Euro frustration

Michael Beale admits Rangers were left frustrated after failing to build up a bigger lead to take to Switzerland for their Champions League third qualifying round second leg after a 2-1 win against 10-man Servette - but insists his new boys are still getting up to speed.

The Light Blues had a man advantage for the final half hour after David Douline was second off for a second yellow card but Beale’s men couldn’t add to the goals scored by James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers, with Chris Bedia pulling one back for the visitors and all the goals coming in first half.

Beale said afterwards: “There’s a lot of frustration in that dressing room. We’re not the sum of our parts yet. The forwards will get better with time. We're never going to use it as an excuse but the reality is 13 or 14 players left and nine came in. The reality is Danilo has trained with his team-mates four times. He had a pre-season that was all over the place because of his move. Jose has trained with us twice.

"Tom Lawrence is coming back, Kemar's back. We're not the sum of all parts right now but I want to see more forward running from the team and more energy. I thought Nico and Todd gave us that tonight from midfield.

"It was an exciting front three. They're finding connections, trying really hard. They pressed ever so well in the game. They'll get better with it. You can see certainly with Cyriel and Danilo they're still getting up to full speed. We won't use any excuses, that's just the facts.

"There's been a lot of change in the football club. We're set up well but I'd rather us just keep showing it on the pitch."
