Miami GP: Charles Leclerc takes P1 as Ferrari seal front row lockout

Charles Leclerc will start the Miami Grand Prix from pole position on Sunday ahead of team-mate Carlos Sainz as the Scuderia locked out the front row in qualifying.

The Ferrari pair will lead the field away on Sunday afternoon, with Red Bull duo Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez in behind, with Dutchman Verstappen making a mistake on his final run to scupper his chances of taking pole.

Behind the two leading teams, Valtteri Bottas once again underlined just how well he is feeling in the Alfa Romeo at the moment, by putting his car in 5th place alongside former team-mate Lewis Hamilton in 6th.

Hamilton had been up against it to get out of Q1 earlier in the session and needed a final run to avoid elimination, but in the end he’ll be happy enough with a top six start and with outqualifying team-mate George Russell who had looked to have had the upper hand over the course of Friday practice.

On the fourth row, Pierre Gasly is joined by Lando Norris, with AlphaTauri enjoying a far better qualy than they did last time out at Imola, with both cars making Q3 as opposed to going out in Q1 back at their home race.

Alongside Tsunoda, meanwhile, is Lance Stroll, who is looking to earn more points after getting off the mark in Imola.

Outside the top ten, Fernando Alonso starts alongside the aforementioned Russell with the Spaniard unable to turn good practice speed into a top ten start, whilst Sebastian Vettel starts ahead of Daniel Ricciardo and Mick Schumacher, with the young Haas driver surely pleased he has outqualified Kevin Magnussen in the sister car.
