Metrolink line suspended with trams stopped due to 'issue' at Old Trafford

All trams between Altrincham and Piccadilly are currently suspended following an 'overhead line issue' at Old Trafford.

Passengers are being asked to use their tickets on alternative transport services while the Metrolink line is out of action. It is currently unclear when the issue, which was first reported shortly before midday, will resolve.

Trams have been stopped completely between Altrincham and Piccadilly, but are still running between Bury and Cornbrook, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) said.

A statement on the TfGM website reads: "Due to a overhead line issue at Old Trafford, the Altrincham - Piccadilly line is currently suspended. Trams will continue to operate between Bury and Cornbrook.

"There is ticket acceptance on 245 and 263 bus services. Simply show the driver your Metrolink ticket or pass when boarding.

"If you need to continue your journey by bus then please visit our journey planner so you know where to get on and off the bus. This feature is also available via the Bee Network app where you can also find bus tracking information.

"In addition to public transport, there are several destinations on this line that can be easily reached by walking."
