Met Office weather warning issued for North West

Strong winds are forecast in the North West at the weekend - with a Met Office warning issued.

A yellow weather warning for wind will come into force at 8am on Saturday (April 6) until 10pm. It covers parts of the North West of England, including Blackpool and Fleetwood.

The warning also covers much of Wales and the South West. Forecasters predict that a 'deep area of low pressure will bring a spell of very windy weather to western areas this weekend'.

The strong winds may cause some travel disruption, with the areas covered by the warning expected to hit with delays on the roads and railways.

According to the Met Office, there is a 'small chance' some bridges may close due to the winds. There is also a 'small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties'.

Forecasters predict that in Blackpool, gusts will reach speeds of up to 50mph on Saturday. Although Greater Manchester is not covered by the warning, windy weather is still expected with 48mph gusts predicted.

It will feel warm in our region on Saturday as temperatures climb to 18C. Sunny spells are also forecast for the afternoon amid the windy conditions.

On the UK weather outlook for the weekend, the Met Office said: "Rain clearing to sunshine and showers on Saturday. Very windy, with gales in places.

"Another day of sunshine and blustery showers on Sunday. Some more general rain possible on Monday."
