Met Office warning as Storm Ciaran set to batter parts of the UK

The Met Office has issued two weather warnings for parts of the UK as the latest storm approaches the UK.

Storm Ciaran is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to parts of southern England and Wales on Thursday. Meanwhile, two yellow weather warnings have been issued in response to expected unsettled conditions.

However, the Met Office highlighted that more severe weather warnings for rain could be issued throughout the week with some areas potentially seeing as much as 50mm of rainfall in one night. Commuters have also been told to expect public transport disruption, including delayed busses and trains as a result of flooding on some roads, Wales Online reports.

A warning for Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire, Powys, and Swansea will be in effect between midnight on Sunday, October 29, and 9am on Monday morning. A second warning is issued for later on in the week which will be in place between midnight and 6pm on Thursday.

Areas affected by the warning include the following:

BBC presenter Louise Lear said: "The beginning of November looks likely to be pretty unsettled. One area of low pressure moves through on Wednesday, on Thursday is a cause for concern - it could be quite a deep area of low pressure with gales and severe gales at times, so we need to keep a close eye on that.”
