Met Office issues UK weather warnings with more strong winds to come in wake of Storm Kathleen

Parts of the UK are set for further wet and windy weather in the wake of Storm Kathleen in the coming days. The Met Office has issued more weather warnings for wind and rain affecting coastal regions of England and a large area of Scotland.

As Storm Kathleen eases another weather system towards the south west of the UK will replace it bringing blustery conditions and some showers, according to the Met Office.

Recent satellite images show that the spiral of cloud associated with Storm Kathleen is now sitting just to the northwest of the UK, the forecasters said. Another Atlantic weather system is now "gathering to the southwest", the weather agency said.

Monday is set to be a cloudy day in the north west with spells of rain pushing up from the southwest, while eastern areas stay relatively dry. The Met Office has forecast sunny spells and some showers in the region on Tuesday before it turns cloudier again on Wednesday and Thursday with outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

According to the UK forecast: "A low pressure system arrives on Monday giving further wet and windy weather, especially for southwest England and Wales. Coastal winds combined with high spring tides can cause flooding."

Met Office meteorologist Ellie Glaisyer commented: "Outbreaks of rain through Monday will mainly affect western parts of the UK. As we go through the day into Tuesday we’re likely to see the strongest wind across the south-west of the UK. It’s coming relatively quickly after Storm Kathleen."

A yellow weather warning for wind will be in place from 6pm on Monday covering Cornwall, Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and the Isles of Sicily. The warning
