Met Office gives exact date temperatures will soar to 26C next week as 'hot spell' arrives

The Met Office says another 'hot spell' is on the way following a rainy bank holiday weekend for many.

Forecasters have predicted the exact date temperatures will soar to 26C in some parts of the country next week.

Heavy rain has blighted the long weekend for parts of the UK, but there is more warm weather on the horizon, according to the weather agency. The Met Office expects things to brighten up considerably from the start of next week.

Saturday has seen a mix of showers and sunshine for most people, with the heaviest rain hitting the south east of the country where a yellow weather warning was in place this morning.

The rain is set to ease this afternoon and into this evening, but there are still showers expected in southern England and the northwest.

More settled conditions are forecast for Sunday, but some areas have been told to brace for further heavy rain. Deputy chief meteorologist Dan Holley said: "Beyond Saturday, many southern and eastern areas will be largely fine and dry through the remainder of the long weekend, with temperatures initially below average but recovering a little by Monday.

"However, it will remain cooler with more cloud and occasional rain or showers in more northwestern areas, with some heavy rain likely on Sunday in parts of Northern Ireland, southwest Scotland, northwest England and north Wales. This may also be accompanied by some fairly brisk winds at times."

Luckily, next week is set to see more pleasant weather for most people. The Met Office has predicted "warmer conditions" with areas in the south likely getting some "hot" weather by the middle of next week.
