Met Office delivers verdict on snow hitting UK in 'foreseeable future'

The Met Office has provided its insight into the chances of snowfall in the coming weeks.

As temperatures continue to get colder across the country, with a particularly "chilly" weekend expected, speculation has begun to run rampant on the odds of the UK seeing snow soon. Current long-range forecasts for the UK state that conditions will be "predominantly unsettled" throughout the rest of November with heavy rainfall and gusts throughout.

Similarly, the start of December will see further rain and showers across all parts of the UK, with wet conditions throughout. There may also be patches of frost and fog with temperatures "generally on the mild side for the time of year".

One major thing missing from forecaster's predictions, though, is snow for the majority of the country. Grahame Madge, a Met Office spokesman, told the Manchester Evening News: “There is no strong signal for snow within the forecast for the rest of autumn or into early December.

"There is always a chance of wintry conditions on the tops of the Scottish mountains but away from these more extreme conditions there is little prospect of snow at lower elevations. For the foreseeable future, our weather conditions are far more likely to be driven by the Atlantic which oftens means spells of wet and windy weather.
