Men from Rochdale named as victims of tragic M6 crash

Two men from Rochdale have been identified as victims of a crash which occurred on the M6 in Cumbria last month. Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway of the motorway, near Penrith, on February 28.

At 11.18am, crews were dispatched to reports of a crash between a van and a car at junctions 39 and 40. Two people travelling in the car involved in the collision were pronounced dead at the scene.

Viorel Stroe, 43, from Rochdale, was travelling in a Volkswagen Passat when it collided with a white Mercedes Luton van. Members of the public on the scene tried to revive Mr Stroe, but their efforts were sadly unsuccessful.

Florentin Lepadat, 51, who was also from Rochdale, was also identified as a victim of the collision by police earlier this month, reports Lancs Live. A third person in the car, a 31-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and has since been discharged.

The driver of the van was a man, 31, from the Gloucestershire area, who was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary by ambulance and later discharged. A passenger in the van was also taken to the Cumberland Infirmary and later discharged.

Cumbria Police are continuing to appeal for information about the collision. Officers are keen to hear from anyone with dash cam travelling on the M6 north or southbound on February 28 between 10am and 11.30am.

Anyone with information is advised to contact police on 101. Details can also be passed on via http://www.cumbria.police.uk/reportit .
