Meet 'little Phil Foden' set to make Aston Villa squad vs Leeds United

He's the little-known FA Youth Cup winner who, this week, was given a first-team squad number at Aston Villa having impressed Steven Gerrard over the last two-and-a-half weeks.

Young midfielder Tommi O'Reilly is now set to make a Premier League squad for the first time with boss Gerrard promoting the 18-year-old to the bench later against Leeds United.

O'Reilly was first spotted in first-team sessions last week when uploaded some footage from Bodymoor Heath, with the attacking midfielder alongside fellow under-18 star Jayden Barber, a right-back who's been involved with England's under-17s this past week alongside another hot Villa prospect, Josh Feeney.

As for O'Reilly, his emergence amongst first-team sessions has really caught the eye and, just yesterday, he was part of the winning seven-a-side team at Bodymoor Heath alongside Emi Martinez, Ezri Konsa, Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne, Danny Ings and Douglas Luiz.

A series of star showings for Villa's under-18s and under-23s has led to O'Reilly's promotion while, amongst his academy youth teammates, he's known as "Philly" or "Fodes" given his Phil Foden-esque playing style. He's also been labelled "Tommi Wilshere" by his under-23 pals at Villa.

attended Villa vs Reading under-23s a fortnight ago and O'Reilly was at the top of his game, dictating the play from the middle and arrowing stupendous through-balls up to the likes of Brad Young and Louie Barry in attack.

The teenager, who played a part in Villa's friendly win over Molde last weekend, has great balance and technical ability with a left foot, according to his coaches, that can peel an orange.
