Meath legend Trevor Giles joins senior backroom team

Meath great Trevor Giles has joined Colm O'Rourke's senior management team ahead of the 2024 season, the county board confirmed this evening.

Giles, who won two All-Ireland SFC titles with the county in the 1990s, was previously a selector with the county side during Mick O'Dowd's tenure between 2013 and 2015.

"Trevor is a welcome addition to the backroom team for the coming season," said county chairman John Kavanagh.

"One of the greatest footballers of his generation, this is a magnificent appointment for Meath GAA and will add greatly to our backroom team as we look to build upon the success of winning the Tailteann Cup."

Giles was one of the finest Meath players of the Sean Boylan era, arriving on the scene during the county's 1993-94 National League triumph.

He subsequently won All-Ireland titles in both 1996 and 1999, scoring 1-04 in the replayed decider against Mayo in '96 and collecting the Footballer of the Year award in the latter. He picked up All-Stars in both campaigns, adding another in 1997.

Giles won a third Leinster title in 2001, though Meath were well beaten in the subsequent All-Ireland final by Galway. He retired from inter-county duty in 2005.

In Colm O'Rourke's first year in charge, Meath tumbled into the Tailteann Cup, though recovered to win the competition, defeating Down in the final and securing Sam Maguire football next season.
