McDonald’s confirms change as fans fume they have ‘messed up’ on big favourite

McDonald’s has confirmed it has been forced to change one of its menu staples after ‘eagle-eyed’ fans reported tasting a difference.

In the last week, a number of people have taken to social media to report how McDonald’s popular Sweet and Sour sauce had a changed taste to it. One person said: “Mcdonalds have really messed up the best sauce uno.”

The original TikTok, from @Demmmx92, led to hundreds of comments from others who said they 'knew it tasted different’. One person commented: “I KNEW IT I thought I was going mad."

The original sauce listed apricot puree and soy sauce amongst its ingredients, but the newer version has no soy sauce and uses apricot pulp instead. Commenting on the video, one person said: "why do these companies change things that don’t need to be changing”. One other replied: “Just had it.. can confirm it's awful.” Another simply said: “I’m livid.”

In a statement issued to the Manchester Evening News, McDonald’s confirmed the change has been as a result of using a ‘contingency supplier’ and therefore has a ‘minor variation’.

A McDonald’s spokesperson said: "We love how much our customers care about the little details, and some eagle-eyed fans have noticed a slight difference in our Sweet and Sour dip. This is because we are currently using a contingency supplier, who also creates dips for McDonald’s in Germany.

“While the recipe has a very minor variation, it has been fully approved by McDonald's and crafted to the same high standards you know and love.”
