'Maybe' - Eric Cantona hints at Manchester United role under Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Manchester United great Eric Cantona has hinted that he would be open to taking on a role at the club under new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe officially secured a 27.7 per cent stake in United last month, ending a takeover saga that lasted over 12 months. Ineos has secured control of all football operations at Old Trafford, as a result.

Having already taken Omar Berrada from Manchester City, the club is also very keen to secure the services of Dan Ashworth, who they wish to install as their inaugural sporting director. Ashworth is currently on gardening leave after informing Newcastle United of his desire to move to Old Trafford last month.

Ineos, as they are already proving, want to make game-changing alterations at Old Trafford, both on and off the field. This forthcoming summer's transfer window could see the club reach double figures when it comes to player sales, such is the way they need to become more proactive in the market.

Amid the sweeping changes that are being made, Cantona, who spent five years at United as a player, has suggested he would be interested in a return to M16 in a new role under the new ownership structure - but made it clear he has no intentions of ever becoming manager.

Speaking in an interview with the Big Issue, Cantona said: "I am involved in too many things, I really love to be a manager. In everything I do I work hard to give 100 per cent so that I am able to have the confidence and to enjoy.

"So I don't have the time to be manager. But maybe something else..."
