Max Verstappen took victory at the first of two Italian Grands Prix this year. The Red Bull driver looked poised for the win from start to finish and led teammate Sergio Perez across the finish line.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, the 2022 championship leader, made a mistake late in the race that saw him drop from third to ninth. He eventually managed to finish the race in sixth place.

With the win, Verstappen now has 51 points to his name and moves into second place in the standings. Leclerc manages to limit his points damage and moves to 79 points. Perez leaps to fourth in the standings on 48 points, just one behind Mercedes-AMG's George Russell.

Verstappen's to lose

Verstappen had a great launch off the line and soon had Perez, who started in third, behind him. Leclerc and teammate Carlos Sainz - who started in second and fourth, respectively - both had poor getaways. Leclerc soon fell to fourth behind the two Red Bulls and McLaren's Lando Norris, while Sainz had it all to fight for against Ricciardo, Norris' teammate.

The two drivers made contact, with Sainz coming unstuck in the gravel. Ricciardo fell to the back of the grid and eventually finished in last place.
