Max Meyer certain Luzern can dump Hibs and says ref RIGHT not to flash red for Dylan Vente shocker

Max Meyer insists ref Robertas Valikonis was right not to send him off for wiping out Dylan Vente last week - but vowed to leave Hibs seeing red on Thursday night by dumping them out of Europe, writes Fraser Wilson from Switzerland.

Lee Johnson’s players have been warned to expect a fiery atmosphere at a packed out Swissporarena as Luzern go about trying to overturn the 3-1 first leg Conference League deficit. And Meyer will be available to lead the charge after escaping an early bath after taking out Vente as he raced through on goal in the second half of the explosive clash in Leith. The Easter Road crowd demanded a red but the former Crystal Palace ace - who admits he was frustrated with his side’s second half display -reckons Valikonis was right to flash yellow and leave him free to try and turn the tie on its head.

He said: “We have the quality to beat Hibs. Yes 3-1 was not a good result but with the fans in the stadium and the energy we bring then we can turn it around. I didn’t fear a sending off. It was a foul but the yellow card was correct. It was not a red card.

“I was frustrated with the result but not really with the performance. The first half especially we had everything under control and a coupe of chances. Then the first 10 minutes of the second half we were not good. But after that we had opportunities to score a second goal.

“I’m sure with the right energy we can turn this around tomorrow. I wasn’t surprised by Hibs. I played in the Premier League for three years and know about the level of Scottish football. It was clear there was a lot of energy and if they have the ball they are very fast up front. Again though I’m sure we can turn it around.”
