Max Johnston jets out for Sturm Graz transfer with starlet in line for Champions League debut against PSV

Max Johnston has checked-in to seal his big-money move to Sturm Graz and a potential Champions League debut against PSV Eindhoven.

Scotland’s young player of the year has arrived at Edinburgh Airport for his flights out to Austria on Monday evening. The out-of-contract Motherwell star has agreed terms of a lucrative, four year contract that will see him earn a weekly five figure salary. The talented 19-year-old is set to arrive in Graz this evening with his medical organised for Tuesday morning.

Sturm Graz pushed the boat out to make him one of their highest paid players and move in front of top clubs in England, Italy, France, Portugal and Belgium. The big selling point for Johnston was the fact that he will be a first-team regular and he will also get European experience. Graz are in the Champions League qualifiers and were drawn against PSV Eindhoven in the third qualifying round.

Even if they don’t progress then they will drop into the Europa League. Motherwell will be entitled to around £300,000 in training compensation for Johnston when he signs his deal.
