Mauricio Pochettino's first signing if appointed Manchester United manager could be huge

Talk of who could be the next permanent Manchester United manager is hotting up once again and it looks increasingly like becoming a two-horse race between Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag.

Both Pochettino and Ten Hag are brilliant managers and feel like great choices, but there's still a divide in the United fanbase regarding who is the best fit for the club.

Pochettino's struggles at Paris Saint-Germain have only added fuel to the fire that he could be the next United boss.

The former Tottenham manager was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in 2018 when Jose Mourinho was sacked, but a run of 14 wins from 19 matches saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appointed on a full-time basis.

Whoever is appointed boss has a huge task ahead of them as United aim to re-emerge as one of the best teams in the Premier League.

The MEN Sport understand that United could make as many as four new signings in the summer, with the club's issues in central midfield set to finally be addressed.

Midfield isn't the only area United will likely need to strengthen, with Edinson Cavani's touted exit leaving the club in desperate need of frontline additions.

Signing an elite-level striker is never easy, but if Pochettino is appointed as United manager then the club could have the upper hand on other sides looking to sign a goalscorer.

Harry Kane looked destined for a move to Manchester City in the summer, only for Daniel Levy to block his Etihad switch.

The England captain hasn't looked himself ever since and Spurs could possibly be convinced to sell the striker before his stock falls even further.

United are long-time admirers of Kane and his goalscoring prowess could but just what they need to finally mount a genuine title charge.
