Matt O'Riley proves perfect Celtic team-mate as magic feet backed up with duty of care for Parkhead pals

A particular joy for punters is when an already talented player puts it all together and takes their game to a new level.

And that is the satisfying feeling Celtic supporters are bathing in as they watch the mercurial Matt O'Riley soar to a previously untapped level. O'Riley was excelling as he topped the Scottish Premiership charts but four goals in 50 games during the 22/23 season was below expectations. But now the Denmark international has married his instinct for a pass with a knack for a goal. O'Riley's telling impact was stamped all over the 4-1 romp at Tynecastle with the 22-year-old proving to be the man who can do everything in a midfield which also houses Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate. The former MK Dons standout wins tackles and then drive the ball forward – an unbeatable combo that marks him out.

His stunning form makes his the frontrunner to sweep the individual awards at season's end but another trait of O'Riley's might be his most important; a duty of care for those around him. O'Riley has spoken about the importance of mental health and revealed he works with a coach to keep tabs on his wellbeing.

And that was on full display on the opening day of the season as he publicly voiced his support of team-mate David Turnbull. After the Scotland international's double against Ross County, O'Riley stated: "He deserves it as well. Let's be honest it was pretty tough for you last year, wasn't it?"
