Matt O'Riley Celtic transfer mettle could be tested with English big guns 'considering' bid

A host of English Premier League clubs are ‘considering’ making a bid for Matt O’Riley.

The midfielder has shone for Celtic since arriving from MK Dons back in January for £1.5million. His form for the Hoops has seen him called up to Denmark’s Under 21 squad after helping his club side to last season’s Scottish Premiership title with three goals and two assists in 12 league outings.

O’Riley is gearing up for his first ever crack at the Champions League, with Celtic drawn in a group alongside Spanish giants Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine, who will play their matches in Warsaw. However, ESPN report that the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are all monitoring the midfielder’s situation. Newcastle United and Leicester City are also thought to be interested and could be the two clubs most likely to make an offer before the transfer window closes next week.

The outlet claim that Celtic would look for a fee of between £15million and £20million if they are to consider selling O’Riley. That would represent a significant profit after shelling out ten per cent of that to bring him north from England.

Scouts from Ligue 1 side Lille and German Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg have travelled to Glasgow to watch O’Riley in action. And they have been impressed by what they’ve seen, although have taken their interest any further as things stand.

Ange Postecoglou could still add to his squad before the end of the window. The versatile Sead Habsakanovic arrived from Rubin Kazan this week, with the Aussie on the look out for others who can play in a variety of positions.
