Mathias Kvistgaarden to Celtic transfer hits final roadblock as Brondby chief declares he won't 'sell out' title surge

Brondby chief Carsten V. Jensen has declared that Mathias Kvistgaarden will NOT be sold this month amid interest from Celtic.

The Danish striker has been subject to firm interest throughout the last two transfer windows and it's an offer worth more than £4m was reportedly rejected in the summer to take the 21-year-old to the Scottish Premiership. Brondby have been keen to hold onto him and were repaid with seven goals and seven assists so far this term - with the club in the midst of a three-way fight for the Danish Super League title with Copenhagen and leaders Midtjylland.

And the club are doubling down on that stance and appear unwilling to allow the key player to leave amid the winter break. Jensen was quizzed by Danish outlet Bold over the potential sale Kvistgaarden with Brendan Rodgers' side and Schalke heavily linked with a January approach. He said: "We are in a strong financial position, where we must take advantage of the sporting success we achieved in the autumn.

"We have made a decision that we have entered a transfer window where we do not sell our best players. In other words, we are not going to sell out of the opportunities we have created in the autumn in order to go all the way this season in the Super League.

"That's why we have to keep the squad together. The current squad has only been together for three and a half months. The potential is great. We have a strong belief that we can develop and get better with the group we have assembled. That is why it is important to keep our squad together. When you're young and very talented it's about being purposeful and ambitious, but also with the right amount of patience."
