Mateo Cassierra in fresh Rangers transfer address as striker names his 'priority' that gives Ibrox move the edge

Striker Mateo Cassierra insists he wants to remain in European football next season as he name-checked Rangers again in his list out suitors.

The Colombian has been linked with a move to Ibrox after impressing for Sochi in the Russian Premier League last term, netting 14 times.

The 25-year-old has a year left on his deal but has stated that he wants to leave Russia this summer amid the ongoing war with Ukraine.

Cassierra has previously claimed Gio van Bronckhorst is among his admirers, but has noted there is interest from Argentine title hopefuls River Plate.

However, he admits he would prefer to stay in European football rather than return to South America.

That could open the door for sporting director Ross Wilson to make a move to bring the Sochi frontman to the Scottish Premiership.

Speaking to Blu Radio, Cassierra said: "The situation is really complicated in Russia, but now I am resting.

"The season was tough. Later with my agent I will go in to see what is best for me, for my family.

"Because of the war in Russian territory, it is somewhat difficult. Hopefully it can be fixed.

“Personally, the priority is to be in Europe. I've been abroad for five years, in different countries and leagues. But as I say, we are in time to rest and now nothing can be ruled out”.

“There was also talk about Rangers. The coach knows me. There are possibilities.

"River is something that has been talked about a lot at the end of last week.

"But I don't know anything, a week ago we finished and the possibilities have to be seen."
