Wolves arrival confirmed as Ki-Jana Hoever heads for PSV transfer

Here are your Wolves headlines on Wednesday, June 22...

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly lining up a move for highly-rated River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

According to multiple news sources in Argentina, Wolves’ scouting chief Mathew Hobbs is due to arrive in the country to discuss the transfer of Fernandez with River Plate officials. Fernandez has a release clause of €20million (£17m) and looks set to leave his homeland this summer.

Benfica and AC Milan have also been linked with moves for Fernandez, who has scored eight goals and registered five assists in the Argentine Primera Division this calendar year.

The 21-year-old is the latest talented star emerging from Argentina, who are one of the favourites to win the World Cup in Qatar. Fernandez hasn’t yet made his senior international debut, but he was named in a squad by Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni last November.

His form for River Plate in the past 12 months was bound to attract attention. In addition to his goal contributions in the league, Fernandez has also added two goals and one assist in six Copa Libertadores games. The midfielder also registered two goals and three assists last season as River Plate won the league title.

River Plate are through to the Round of 16 in South America’s most prestigious cup competition and Fernandez, who is also a supporter of Los Millonarios, wants to finish the job. However, it’s claimed Wolves want to seal the transfer of Fernandez imminently.

Ki-Jana Hoever is closing in on a return to the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven, as per Dutch newspaper ED.

Hoever has fallen out of favour at Wolverhampton Wanderers under Bruno Lage and the club have been looking to offload him this summer. Wolves are open to a loan
