'Massive day for me' - Blackburn Rovers midfielder signs contract & outlines aim for new season

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Charlie Weston has signed his maiden professional contract with the Championship side and is eyeing a continued approach of hard work to try and achieve rewards at the club.

The 17-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal which will keep him at Rovers until June 2024. He played a key role as Rovers reached the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup and secured a fifth-place finish in the U18 Premier League table last term.

The England youth international also made a handful of appearances for Mike Sheron’s Under-23s during the 2021-22 Premier League 2 campaign. He is now focused upon continuing his journey at the club.

Speaking to the Rovers website, Weston said: "This is a massive day for me and a moment I’ve been working towards my whole life. It’s one of the best days you can get as a footballer. It’s any young player’s dream and I’m happy to have made my dream come true.

“It’s been a long journey, but a journey that I’ve been willing to do in order to achieve my dream. Since I joined at Under-14s, all the Academy coaches have helped me progress both as a footballer and as a person, and I’m really grateful for that.

“Next season will be a big jump up from Under-18s football. I had a taste of it at the start of last season and that opened my eyes to the level I need to get to. I just need to keep putting the work in and hopefully the rewards will come.”
