Celtic star hits out at 'nasty' Blackburn Rovers after feisty pre-season friendly

Celtic star Matt O'Riley has accused Blackburn Rovers of being 'nasty' after their competitive pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Rovers took the lead through Sam Gallagher after 20 seconds but Celtic responded and led 2-1 at the break. Ben Brereton Diaz equalised for Rovers, who were much-improved after the break.

Celtic dominated the first 45 despite falling behind early on. It was a match played in the spirit of a competitive game with both sides giving as good as they got.

However, O'Riley has accused Rovers of being overly physical in some of their challenges with his post-match comments. The former MK Dons playmaker was evidently unimpressed with some of the tackles.

"They were feisty, a bit nasty and left a few on a few of us," O'Riley said. "Tony’s boot was split in half, which says enough, but it was competitive and it’s what we want.

“We have to handle it because we’ll come up against teams in the Scottish Prem who’ll try to kick us to try to stop us. But if we’re on it with the counter-press and crisp on the ball the rest will take care of itself.”
