'Massive' - BBC man makes fresh injury claim after what he's heard 'from the Leeds medical team'

Former Scotland manager Alex McLeish has been reacting to Leeds United’s statement regarding Robin Koch’s head injury, as per Football Insider.

The 25-year-old suffered a nasty head injury in Sunday’s 4-2 defeat to Manchester United at Elland Road and eventually had to be replaced in the first half.

Koch has since missed the 6-0 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday, with Leeds receiving criticism from the Professional Footballer’s Association for allowing the German to play on after a clash of heads with United’s Scott McTominay.

The Whites responded by revealing that the defender passed on the on-field concussion tests from the Leeds medical team and added that they would be in favour of temporary substitutions for head injuries.

McLeish, who contributes as a pundit for BBC Radio 5 Live, was talking to Football Insider regarding Leeds’ statement.

He labelled Koch’s head injury as a ‘massive concern’ and described hearing from Leeds’ medical team as ‘interesting’, saying:

“I read that. It was quite interesting to hear from the Leeds medical team suggesting bringing on a player for 10 minutes. See how he is, if he recovers from it.

“Then again, how do you know he’s okay? Sometimes you’re like: ‘I’m okay to go back on,’ but your head’s still rattling a wee bit. Only scans and things can tell if you’ve really been affected by the knock.

“There is obviously massive concern about head injuries. I’m not so sure about bringing a player on while a player is off. Then if he’s okay, you can bring the temporary sub off.

“It smacks of other sports and I’m not sure it should be the same in football.”
