It is only a matter of time until Mason Mount is officially announced as Manchester United's first signing of the summer.

The 24-year-old was at Carrington on Monday to undergo his medical and on Tuesday he was back to pose for pictures ahead of completing his £55million move from Chelsea later this week.

At first, Mount might not seem like the most logical addition for a side prioritising the addition of a striker and a goalkeeper this summer, but he could end up being the best bit of business they complete throughout the window.

The England international not only checks every box that Erik ten Hag looks for in a midfielder, but he also offers significant experience and versatility to a United team that struggled last season due to a lack of trustworthy squad depth.

Ten Hag is a huge fan of the young midfielder, who he believes is the ideal fit for the type of football he wants to play. Mount is not only technically brilliant, but he has shown great adaptability throughout his career and has all the physical attributes required to lead the press.

He also offers great versatility and could replace either Bruno Fernandes or Christian Eriksen in the side when required, giving United a lot more options to play across the campaign.
