Mason Greenwood verdict speak volumes as final Man United reunion decision now made

Jamaica manager Steve McClaren has already weighed in on Mason Greenwood's impending international switch, with the forward seemingly giving up on an England recall. The former Manchester United and current Marseille player made his only appearance for the Three Lions against Iceland in 2020 but has now pledged his future to the Reggae Boyz following clarity from the Football Association that he wouldn't be selected for England duty.

Greenwood faced a suspension from United upon being charged with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behaviour in 2022. Despite denying the charges, which were later dropped, Greenwood was left out of the plans at Old Trafford and subsequently transferred to Marseille after a loan stint at Getafe.

Should Greenwood's international allegiance be formalised, it would secure a reunion with former United assistant McClaren - and it seems Greenwood is clearly keen at the prospect of a reunion with his former coach. McClaren, previously in charge at Middlesbrough and on the coaching team at United, has been forthcoming about his eagerness to see Greenwood don the Jamaican jersey, expressing empathy for the 23 year old's circumstance and highlighting the player's eagerness to join the national squad.

"I've heard a lot of publicity about and always around Mason Greenwood," McClaren told to the press in November. Adding to this he noted: "I am constantly in touch with Mason, the message is always the same, 'when the time is right'. You've got to think he's had a traumatic time the last two years in his contract, and he's been on loan.
