Mason Greenwood hesitates over Man United reunion before huge decision

Former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood is reportedly reluctant to switch his international allegiance to Steve McClaren's Jamaica after England announced the appointment of Thomas Tuchel during the October international break.

Greenwood has bagged six goals in eight appearances for Marseille since his summer transfer away from Old Trafford. Greenwood hadn't played for United since January 2022 when he was sold in the previous transfer window.

He was arrested in January 2022 and charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew their cooperation. United held an internal review and claimed they believed Greenwood hadn't committed the offences with which he was charged, but attempts to reintegrate him into the United squad last August were dropped after a fan backlash and it was made clear then that his Old Trafford career was over.

With his United career at an end, it seemed as though his England career was over, too. The 23-year-old made just one appearance for the Three Lions during the Nations League in 2020 and has not been handed another cap since.

According to The Sun, Greenwood does hold an interest in switching his allegiance to Jamaica thanks to his dual nationality. Should he do so, he would link up with former United assistant McClaren who was named head coach earlier this year.
