Mary Earps hits back at Nike statement amid row over replica England goalkeeper shirts

Manchester United and England goalkeeper Mary Earps has slammed Nike's latest statement amid the row over not manufacturing replica goalkeeper shirts.

The shot-stopper raised the conversation before the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup when she confirmed the global retailer would not be selling her shirt for the tournament, a decision which has been heavily criticised herself and fans alike. Earps made a further mockery of Nike's stance by claiming the golden glove, rounding off another outstanding campaign for the shot-stopper.

In light of the criticism, Nike released a statement last week addressing the controversy and insisted they are working on solutions for future tournaments. A Nike spokesperson said: "Nike is committed to women's football and we're excited by the passion around this year's tournament and the incredible win by the Lionesses to make it into the final.

"We are proudly offering the best of Nike innovation and services to our federation partners and hundreds of athletes. We hear and understand the desire for a retail version of a goalkeeper jersey and we are working towards solutions for future tournaments, in partnership with FIFA and the federations.

"The fact that there's a conversation on this topic is testament to the continued passion and energy around the women's game and we believe that's encouraging."

Following the Lionesses' return to the UK after the heartbreaking final defeat to Spain, in which Earps saved a crucial penalty in the second half to keep the scoreline at 1-0, Earps hit back at Nike's statement on Instagram.
