Martin Tyler vs Peter Drury: Commentary for Liverpool goals couldn't be more different

Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler was criticised for his lack of reaction for Liverpool’s goals during their 2-1 win over Southampton.

Jurgen Klopp’s side ensured the Premier League title race would go down to the final day of the season after a much-changed team came from behind to beat the Saints.

But it looked as though it would be one game too many for the Reds as they fell behind to a Nathan Redmond strike.

Liverpool responded well and equalised before half time with a fantastic Takumi Minamino strike. It was a huge goal.

However, many believe Tyler’s commentary didn’t quite do it justice with a lacklustre ‘it’s 1-1’ comment.

Then, with a little more than 20 minutes remaining, Joel Matip gave Liverpool the lead with a bizarre header from a corner. Again, Tyler didn’t react as if Liverpool had just scored a goal which means the title race will go down to the final day.

Liverpool fans were disappointed their huge victory wasn’t done justice by Tyler.

However, clips of an alternative commentator has surfaced online and it couldn’t be more different than Tyler’s attempt.

Step forward, Peter Drury.

The legendary commentator was also on duty on Tuesday night and appeared to realise the magnitude of Liverpool’s victory.

A simple comparison of the two for each of Liverpool’s goals says a lot. It’s not just what they say but the tone and excitement in their voices.

Check out the difference below:

Martin Tyler

“Oh, it’s 1-1. And Minamino has returned to St Mary’s where he played last season on loan with a very well hit equalising goal. He’s not overdoing the celebration.”
