Martin O'Neill slaughters worst Rangers team he's seen in years and names who'd gub them 6-0
Unimpressed Martin O'Neill believes the current Rangers side are "desperately poor" and that the Ibrox team he competed against would batter them 6-0.
The legendary Celtic boss – who revealed he was a VIP guest of Dermot Desmond for last weekend's title decider at Parkhead – was left aghast by the quality on the show from Philippe Clement's side. The 72-year-old could not get onside with Graeme Souness' belief that Rangers aren't far off a Celtic team who have just secured a 12th title in 13 seasons, while not losing a game against their biggest rivals.
But O'Neill – who was at pain to make clear how much work Rangers have to do – made it clear he is not a believer in what is going at Ibrox. In an impassioned verdict, speaking on talkSPORT, O'Neill said: "I think there is a (a gulf). I'm sorry to have to disagree with Graeme. Rangers were desperately poor, really, really poor the other day in a game which was very important for them. Celtic could have been out of sight by half time, Lundstram gets himself sent off, absolutely ridiculous.
"That's as poor a Rangers side I have seen in years, I have to tell you that, that's my view. The side (he faced) back in the year 2000, Rangers and Celtic would have had more money than they have now, a bit more money to spend. But the side Rangers had in the year 2000, 01, 02, would have beaten this Rangers side about 6-0.
"I think there is a genuine difference, there's no question about it. I think there is quite obviously a gulf at this minute. And Rangers have to do something about it. Rangers need better players, it's as simple as that."
