Manchester City came into the transfer window short on players and desperately short of confidence, and became the biggest spenders of the window as they try to rectify their season.

The story of City's window was largely about incoming players. Their shocking run of form in recent times had partly been blamed on injuries and Pep's preference for a small squad, with the burden shifting onto those players who remained to fill out the squad.

With a fifth successive title no longer on the cards, the goal was to arrest the decline and set up City for future success. Omar Marmoush was the headline signing, with the Bundesliga's second-top scorer arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59 million.
