Mark McGhee in spiky Dundee interview as he insists radiator comments worked and brands winless run 'irrelevant'

Defiant Mark McGhee insists he has improved Dundee despite relegation from the Scottish Premiership looking more and more likely.

A draw with St Johnstone leaves the rock bottom Dark Blues five points behind Callum Davidson 's side in the play-off spot and 10 points from guaranteed safety.

The build up to the game was dominated by claims that McGhee had switched off his heating and gone on a diet to help focus for Dundee 's relegation fight.

The boss also promised the players he would go naked if his players had managed to see off St Johnstone.

And he insisted those comments helped the team in a heated post-match interview.

When asked if he felt the controversial practices had worked to help the team on BBC Sportsound, he said: "Of course it worked.

"You can't say it didn't work just because we drew the game. We started brilliantly. The attitude going in was that we are going to win this game.

"In that first half, and coming in at half time, it looked as if there was only going to be one winner. I was just disappointed we didn't get a second goal.

"But yeah, of course it worked. It will continue to work going into the remaining games, because we are not conceding. There are four games left and anything can happen. As long as our players remain in the frame of mind they are in, they will win football matches."

McGhee was then pressed on the 10 game winless run that the club are on, with boos ringing out at Dens Park in front of owner Tim Keyes.

An Irked McGhee continued: "Well, I do what I am doing. I work hard in training, but I can change the players and who they are. They are who they are, and they have the ability they have.
