Marcus Rashford told the 'easy' way he can rediscover his best Manchester United form

Michael Owen insists Marcus Rashford must go back to looking for "easy gains" if he wants to spark his Manchester United career back into life.

The former England and United striker made the admission after Rashford was substituted off during the second-half of United's 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

After falling behind after just seven minutes thanks to Joao Felix's powerful header, United failed to impose themselves on the contest, meaning interim manager Ralf Rangnick was left with little choice but to mix things up in pursuit of a recovery.

Rangnick made five substitutions in the final 25 minutes, with Rashford taken off with 75 minutes on the clock and replaced by Anthony Elanga, who netted the all-important leveller to earn United a draw.

Rashford, not for the first time in recent months, had little impact on the contest, was sloppy with the ball at his feet and was fortunate to last as long as he did.

With his form showing little sign of improving, former United man Owen believes Rashford needs to go back to basics in a bid to spark his career back into life, pointing to the easy, obvious tasks that a footballer should complete to help themselves and gain support.

Explaining how Rashford can rediscover his best form, Owen told BT Sport: "I think easy gains. When things are going well, it's easy. Everything is off the cuff, it's natural.

"I think when you're struggling, go for easy gains, build yourself back into a game. I know if a full-back gets the ball, I know that if I sprint 20 yards and get a block on it and it goes out for a throw-in the crowd are all singing your name.
