Marcus Rashford responds to questions over his Manchester United desire with substitution reaction

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel admits he was 'very happy' to see Marcus Rashford's angry reaction after being substituted during the draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

It has been a tough season for Rashford who has struggled to hit the heights of the 2022/23 campaign. Since Boxing Day, the 26-year-old's form in the Premier League has turned a corner with the forward scoring two goals and grabbing an assist in his last three appearances in the top flight.

His latest goal came on 40 minutes as he expertly managed to place the ball past Guglielmo Vicario to restore United's lead before half-time. Ultimately, Rashford's strike would be cancelled out moments into the second half as Rodrigo Bentancur equalised to ensure the points were shared.

As the match headed towards stoppage time, Erik ten Hag chose to bring Rashford off for Antony in a move which appeared to annoy the England international as he took his place on the bench. While some may have seen the reaction in a negative light, Schmeichel explained how it answered plenty of questions which surround the winger.

He told Premier League Productions: "The substitution doesn’t make sense to me whatsoever and I was very, very happy to see that reaction. I know it sounds a bit silly that I’m saying that, but I was very, very happy because like to many people who care for Manchester United we’ve started to question his desire, does he really want to be there? We’ve seen games where his body language has been so bad.
