Marcus Rashford issues 'thank you' message to Manchester United fans and sets trophy target

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has insisted that the squad has put last season's disappointments behind them following the start of pre-season training.

A majority of United's players reported back to the club's Carrington training base last Monday and the remainder of the squad, who were on international duty last month, returned at the start of this week. It means that new manager Erik ten Hag now has the opportunity to analyse his whole squad ahead of naming his pool of players that will jet out to Thailand for the pre-season tour on Friday.

Rashford, alongside the likes of fellow countryman Luke Shaw and Jadon Sancho, was back at Carrington last week, meaning he has experienced a full week of life under Ten Hag so far. The Dutchman's arrival in M16 has signalled the beginning of a new era, with United determined to put last season's humiliation behind them.

Despite the difficulties United faced last season, the supporters stuck with the team for the most part, meaning they will be more determined than ever to see an improvement this season. And Rashford has issued a short but effective message to fans, while outlining the desire to bring silverware back to Old Trafford.

Asked if he would like to send a message to the supporters, Rashford told United's club website : "A big thank you.

"We've put it behind us and now we just need to put all our energy into next season and try to win trophies. [That is] what we are here to do as players."

United will kick-off their pre-season preparations next Tuesday, facing Liverpool in their opening friendly in Thailand. The Reds will then fulfil another four friendlies away from Old Trafford, before hosting Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, July 31.
